Gen Z marketing is bigger than TikTok, memes and short-form video.
As a Gen Z marketer myself, I have noticed something about the way our generation is often discussed in marketing: we are frequently reduced to a list of trends, platforms and stereotypes.
But Gen Z is not a marketing checklist.
We are audiences, consumers, creators, searchers, readers, users and communities navigating a digital world that is changing incredibly quickly.
That is exactly why I am creating The Gen Z Marketing Guide here at Signal & Strategies.
This guide will be my dedicated space on S&S as the founder, where I explore modern marketing through a Gen Z lens.
And no, this will not be another guide telling marketers to “just make a TikTok.”
There is a lot more to it than that.
So, what will the guide cover?
The goal is to create one evolving resource that brings together the different parts of digital marketing and looks at how they connect with Gen Z.
🔎 Gen Z & SEO
Search behaviour is changing.
Google is no longer the only place people go when they want an answer, recommendation or product. Social platforms, video platforms, communities and AI-powered search are becoming part of the discovery journey too.
The guide will explore:
- Search intent
- Conversational search
- Long-tail keywords
- Social search
- TikTok, Instagram, YouTube and Reddit as discovery platforms
- AI search and changing search experiences
- Helpful content
- E-E-A-T and trust
- Zero-click experiences
- Writing for humans rather than stuffing pages with keywords
SEO isn’t disappearing. The search ecosystem is simply becoming much bigger.
🤖 Gen Z & AI
AI is already changing how marketers create, search, analyse and communicate.
But there is an important distinction between using AI and outsourcing your entire voice to AI.
I’ll explore AI-assisted marketing, generative AI, AI search, personalization, synthetic media, deepfakes, transparency and the importance of human input.
Because AI can help create the sentence.
It cannot automatically create the perspective behind it.
🖥️ Gen Z, UX & Web Design
A website is not just a place where information lives.
It is an experience.
The guide will look at mobile-first design, accessibility, navigation, microcopy, CTAs, landing pages, visual hierarchy, interaction, motion and the growing influence of 3D and immersive websites.
I’ll also explore something marketers sometimes forget:
Good design is not about making a website look impressive. It’s about making the experience make sense.
A website can have beautiful animations and still make someone want to close the tab immediately.
✍️ Gen Z & Content Marketing
Gen Z content marketing isn’t simply about producing more content.
We’ll explore storytelling, educational content, opinion-led content, relatable content, user-generated content, content pillars, personal branding, content repurposing and developing a recognizable voice.
I’ll also look at why authenticity matters and why trying too hard to sound “young” can make a brand feel considerably less authentic.
You don’t need to use every slang word on the internet to understand your audience.
Please. 😭
📱 Gen Z & Social Media
We’ll get into the platforms where Gen Z discovers, discusses and shares information.
That includes:
- TikTok
- YouTube
- Short-form video
- Stories
- Carousels
- Community engagement
- Creator-led content
But the focus won’t simply be which platform is popular.
We’ll look at why people use these platforms differently and why content should be adapted to the environment rather than copied and pasted everywhere.
🎨 Gen Z & Branding
Gen Z interacts with brands as part of a wider culture.
The guide will explore brand personality, visual identity, nostalgia, internet culture, community, consistency, relatability and the difference between participating in a trend and desperately chasing one.
A brand doesn’t have to be perfect.
It does have to feel intentional.
🎥 Creator & Influencer Marketing
The creator economy has changed how audiences discover products, personalities and ideas.
I’ll cover creator partnerships, micro and macro creators, authenticity, sponsored content, affiliate marketing, UGC and why influence isn’t always measured by follower count.
Sometimes the person with the smaller audience has the stronger relationship with it.
💌 Email & Community Marketing
Not everything needs to happen on a feed.
We’ll also explore newsletters, email marketing, personalization, loyalty and community-building.
Because building an audience and building a community are not necessarily the same thing.
💰 Paid Marketing & E-commerce
The guide will also venture into paid media and conversion.
That means PPC, social advertising, retargeting, creative testing, landing pages, product discovery, reviews, social commerce, checkout UX and trust signals.
Because getting someone’s attention is only one part of marketing.
What happens after they click matters too.
📊 Analytics & Measurement
Numbers matter.
But not every number deserves to become your entire personality.
We’ll look at engagement, CTR, conversion rate, retention, acquisition, attribution, A/B testing and the difference between useful metrics and vanity metrics.
The goal is not simply to collect data.
It’s to understand what the data is actually telling you.
🛡️ Ethics, Privacy & Trust
This will be one of the most important parts of the guide.
Marketing technology is becoming more powerful, which means marketers have more responsibility too.
We’ll explore:
- Data privacy
- Dark patterns
- Manipulative UX
- AI ethics
- Influencer disclosure
- Deepfakes
- Greenwashing
- False scarcity
- Accessibility
- Responsible personalization
- Transparency
Because being able to convince someone to do something doesn’t automatically mean you should.
🔮 The Future of Gen Z Marketing
And finally, we’ll look forward.
AI search.
Agentic shopping.
Immersive and 3D websites.
Creator-led brands.
Synthetic media.
Personalization.
The changing relationship between search, social and commerce.
The marketing industry is not standing still, and neither is Gen Z.
This isn’t a “how to manipulate Gen Z” guide
That distinction matters to me.
I don’t want this guide to treat Gen Z like a mysterious demographic marketers need to crack.
We’re people.
We notice when brands are being genuine. We notice when something feels forced. We notice when a website is frustrating. We notice when content provides actual value and when it exists purely to chase a ranking.
And we certainly notice when someone has clearly discovered Gen Z slang five minutes before publishing a campaign.
The purpose of this guide is not to give marketers a secret formula for Gen Z.
It’s to encourage them to understand the audience, the technology and the experience.
A living guide, not a finished textbook
This guide will continue to evolve alongside the marketing industry.
As search changes, I’ll revisit SEO.
As AI develops, I’ll revisit AI marketing.
As websites evolve, I’ll revisit UX.
As platforms change, I’ll revisit social strategy.
And as Gen Z itself continues to grow, change and influence the industry, I’ll keep questioning what marketers think they already know.
Because marketing shouldn’t be built around assumptions.
It should be built around understanding.
Welcome to my corner of Signal & Strategies.
This is The Gen Z Marketing Guide.
SEO. AI. UX. Content. Social. Branding. Strategy. Ethics. And everything in between.
