AI has made content creation faster. It can help us brainstorm ideas, organise thoughts, research topics, and create a starting point when the blank page is staring back at us like it has personal beef.
But there is one thing AI cannot automatically give your content:
You.
That is where storytelling comes in.
AI Can Create Content. Storytelling Makes It Human.
The problem with AI-assisted content is not necessarily that AI was used.
The problem is when the final piece has no sense of the person behind it.
It may be grammatically perfect. It may be structured well. It may even be technically informative. But if it could have been written for anyone, by anyone, it often becomes forgettable.
Your experiences, opinions, observations, humour, values, interests, and perspective are what make content yours.
Storytelling gives those elements somewhere to live.
Instead of simply telling your audience:
“Storytelling is important for building connections.”
You can show them why.
You can share the moment you realised a campaign worked because of the story behind it. You can explain how a fictional character helped you understand a marketing principle. You can talk about a personal experience that changed how you view content creation.
The lesson becomes more memorable because it is attached to something human.
The Storytelling Lab: Humanising AI-Assisted Content
The Storytelling Lab is built around one central idea:
AI can assist with the creation process, but your perspective should remain at the centre of the content.
The goal is not to reject AI.
The goal is to avoid becoming invisible inside the content you create with it.
The Storytelling Lab explores how storytelling can be used to transform ideas into content that feels personal, memorable, and connected to the creator behind it.
That might mean:
- using personal experiences to explain a marketing concept
- using fictional characters to make a strategy easier to understand
- turning an observation into a relatable lesson
- connecting a professional topic to something you genuinely care about
- adding your own opinions instead of accepting the first generic answer AI provides
- using your natural humour, language, and perspective throughout the content
This is how AI-assisted content becomes more human.
Not by pretending AI was never involved, but by ensuring the final result carries the fingerprints of the person who created it.
Your Interests Can Become Your Content Language
One of the most powerful ways to make content yours is to connect your expertise with the things you already love.
Marketing does not always have to be explained through textbook examples.
A marketing funnel can be explained through a television show. A brand positioning strategy can be explored through a fictional character. Audience psychology can be discussed through a book.
The strategy remains the same.
The storytelling simply gives it a more memorable entrance.
This is one of the principles behind the Storytelling Lab. Your interests are not distractions from your expertise. They can become the bridge that helps other people understand it.
When you bring your own references, experiences, and perspective into your content, you create something that is far more difficult to replicate.
Someone else can ask AI to explain the same topic.
They cannot recreate your relationship with that topic.
A Simple Framework for Humanising AI Content
When using AI to assist with content, ask yourself five questions:
1. What is my perspective?
What do I actually think about this topic?
Do I agree with the common advice? Do I have a different experience? Is there something I would explain differently?
2. What can I connect this to?
Can I connect this idea to a personal experience, a book, a character, a campaign, a conversation, or something I have observed?
3. What would I say differently?
AI often produces a polished but predictable answer.
What words would you naturally use? What analogy would make sense to you? What would you explain in a way that sounds like your voice?
4. What story makes this memorable?
A concept becomes easier to remember when it has context.
Ask yourself:
What story, example, or experience can bring this idea to life?
5. Does this sound like me?
This is perhaps the most important question.
If you removed your name from the content, would someone who knows your work still recognise that you created it?
If the answer is no, the content may need more of you.
AI Is the Tool. Storytelling Is the Signature.
The future of content creation does not have to be a choice between human creativity and artificial intelligence.
AI can help us work faster.
Storytelling helps us remain present.
The most effective AI-assisted content is not necessarily the content that hides the fact that AI was used. It is content where the creator has added enough thought, personality, experience, and perspective that the final piece feels intentional.
That is what the Storytelling Lab aims to educate creators and marketers about.
Use AI to help you create. Use storytelling to make the content yours.
Because the most memorable content is rarely the content that simply says something correctly.
It is the content that makes someone think:
“I have never seen it explained that way before.”
